The chain, from the search to aftercare.
Short jobs, many running at once: the cost is neither the selling nor the making, it is finding the file again.
Getting found
Website, gallery by type of work, town pages, Google listing and reviews. A homeowner who wants a balustrade starts here and nowhere else.
Enquiry in
Form with a photo, call, message. Attributed to its source and attached to a job before anyone drives anywhere.
Survey & quote
Dimensions are taken on site. They reach the pricing without being copied out, with the options that make the price.
Fabrication
Cutting, bending, welding, grinding. Short runs where hours booked decide the margin.
Finishing
Galvanising, powder coating, RAL colour. Almost always subcontracted, almost never tracked.
Install, certificate & aftercare
Fixing, adjustment, photos, certificate. Then aftercare, which runs for a year.
What jams, and where.
Private clients cannot find you
"Bespoke balustrade" plus a town: three firms come up and you are not one of them. This is the main channel for ornamental metalwork, and often the one nobody works on.
No photos of what you make
Ornamental metalwork sells by eye. With no gallery of installed work, sorted by type and style, the customer has nothing but price to go on.
Options change the whole price
Glass infill or bar infill, timber handrail or stainless: the linear metre is not the same price, and a template quote does not know it.
Aftercare no longer has the file
A year later nobody can find the colour, the fixing or the fitter. Retention is released blind.
What we put in place.
Bring the volume in through local search, then keep the file after handover: dimensions, options, colour, fixings, photos, certificate.
Website & gallery by type of work
Balustrades, staircases, gates, screens: one page per type of work, one per town, each with photos of installed jobs and an honest price range.
Local SEO & reviews
Google Business Profile, review collection, located photos. On short jobs the map and the reviews decide more often than the site itself.
Options and formulas by the metre
The price is built from the real options: infill, handrail, fixing, colour. Changing one recomputes the quote.
The file outlives handover
Dimensions, colour, fixings, photos, certificate: all of it stays attached to the job. Aftercare and retention release rest on it.
Frequently asked questions
How do we get enquiries from private clients?
Through local search, almost exclusively. A Google Business Profile with photos of installed work and recent reviews, a page per type of work — balustrade, staircase, gate, screen — and one per town you cover, each with a price range on it. Someone who finds an honest price on a dedicated page calls; someone who finds nothing calls elsewhere.
Should we put prices on the site?
Ranges, yes. "From £X per linear metre, depending on infill and handrail" qualifies the enquiry before the call and lifts the page onto queries containing "price" or "cost". Above all it saves you the site visits for budgets nowhere near the job being asked for.
How do you price a balustrade by the linear metre with options?
The price is built by formula: length, height, infill type, handrail, fixing method, colour. Changing an option recomputes the item without starting from a template quote, and the chosen option stays attached to the job through to installation.
Can subcontracted powder coating or galvanising be tracked?
Yes. The batch sent out is a tracked object: subcontractor, RAL colour, despatch date, expected return, actual return. A late batch surfaces before it blocks an installation already in the programme.
Does it suit a team of three to ten people?
Yes, and that is the size where the difference shows most. The platform needs no dedicated administrator: a three-person firm uses quoting, workshop and invoicing and leaves the rest switched off. On the web side, one page per type of work and a maintained Google listing are enough to change the volume of enquiries.
